I love this site! I have added 40 pounds on my deadlift, 30 # on my back squat. Adding sled pulls forwards and back, pushing 4 door jeeps in parking lots, flipping tires have made me so much stronger.  I am getting a yoke built by a welder. This strongmanwod rocks!

Rob, I wanted to say “thank you” for making training fun again. I found out about Hybrid last year. Ever since, I’ve been making the transition to not specializing. It has revitalized my passion and desire to get stronger and have fun doing it.

Screw percentages. Period.

Woo hoo, finally a StrongmanWOD I can do Rx’d with a sprained toe and a lack of equipment! Including bodyweight, best 3RM was 240#. Up from unable to do 2 pullups while at 141# bodyweight just a year ago.

Joe Steet

Did A LOT of strict pull up work the other day so I did this today:

1 Power clean+ 3 Front squats for max weight- Hit 300lbs!!! Again feeling the StrongmanWODs Translate to other movements!!!

Then me and my buddy Justin practiced stone technique for 20 minutes with the 200 pounder, If you all haven’t watched Rob’s stone technique videos…. They are a much watch!!!

Just did my first ever strong man comp. and at 225 im not used to feeling small…. holy cow there are some big dudes out there. BUT, if we would have done anything outside 1Min, things would have gotten ugly. but took 6th overall in the lightweight, and 3rd in the LE/MIL/FIRE lightweight division. If i can be in the top third at local CF competitions, 5Ks, and Strongman, im satisfied with current programming, and your site is a part of that! thanks for the daily posts. and the seminars (im lokoing forward to attending) keep the good stuff coming!

I’ve been following strongman wods and incorporating strongman into my workoits since my strongman cert. In september 2011. Since incorporating strongman into my wods I have crushed my persona record in deadlift. Am able to do andincorporate muscle ups into wods, and have exploded in my ability to perform olympic lifts. Thank you for taking the stale out of my workouts. Recently had emergency surgery and due to my level of fitness I was back performing my normal wods within 4 weeks. Couldnt have done this withoit the fitness Crossfit provides. Thanks for the inspiration Rob and your great training crew at Hybrid Athletics.

As a side i came in second place for the base squat competition. Lost by .03 lbs. They took total squat weight divided by body weight. I’m 188 and squatted 450 (PR). Second got me a $25 gift card. I think the increase may have been all the deadlifting and kettlebell stuff…tire flips…awkward think carry…basically the site.
Thanks RobO

Many thanks for all your effort on this site and designing the WODs. I just discovered it and plan on adding them to my routine. I’ve done CF for more than three years. I’m training for a powerlifting meet and some of these will supplement the regular CF WODs nicely.

As a 51-year-old geezer with a fairly wrecked right shoulder, any overhead movements are out, but I’m looking forward to getting stone molds, a 500-600# tire, and pushing my truck!

With regards to integrating strongmanWOD and strongman moves into my training for Ultra races; I’ve found a way to target a lot of my weaknesses. As much as I like the main site and the Endurance Site, they seem to miss a lot of the exercises that help me. These includes Lunges (in any form), higher box jumps, runs with weighted vests and heavier squats.
There tend to be 3-4 WODS on the site per week which really fit something I’m working on. This week I really liked the LungeFest 2011, Mo & Sandbag Get-ups/HSPU WODS. Besides overall strength work, they really target muscles that (for me) tend to get fatigued on hillier trails or more technical surfaces. It’s amazing how much training the Lunge has helped me.

Thanks for coming to Arizona and putting on the seminar. I had a great time picking up heavy odd shaped stuff. Now I’m working on getting new toys for the gym! This is definitely a “must attend” seminar for anyone who wants to get stronger and mix up the programming at their box.g.

I am 57 and what I have learned from CF workouts over the last 3 years is that long metcons do me in and certain shoulder exercises (kips and snatch for example) cause more pain than they are worth.
I scale your strongman stuff and throw some shorter metcon type things and find that I get everything I need. I actually think older guys like me would go for that kind of workout regimen but don’t know how to do it or where to find it.  Thanks for everything.

Thanks to StrongmanWOD, I smashed the atlas stone ladder at the All Cities Open this weekend. The WOD was get 5 stones over a yoke set to 45″ as fast as possible, the weights of the stones were 116#, 142# ,173#, 207# ,246#. I had never lifted a stone heavier the 130#, but using your instruction and watching your stone videos the 246# felt like a pebble! My time for the ladder was 28 seconds, placing 2nd. Thanks again brother!!! Look forward to more! If I can find a video I will post it.

My trainer at CrossFit Geelong got me on here. If he was a chick, I reckon he’d have posters of you on his ceiling – always raving about SMW and what you write up. Have been scaling a lot of stuff, but love mixing it up with my regular CF workouts. The Yoke work looks rad – may have to invest!

Got to see you and your crew in CO Springs and took the Strongman teachings back to Chicago to CrossFit Barrington and Underground Performance. My lacrosse kids love the tire flips and always shudder when I break out the stones and axles. Many Thanks!

It’s The Don rocking it up down in Stillwater, Oklahoma @ CrossFit Stillwater. This programming is great! This week I’ve programmed “StrongMan Week” at my box with nothing but strongman WODs

Love the site. Been throwing your wods in when I can. Located not far away in Hartford…Quick question for you. What do you use when you fill a keg? Is it water and gravel? Thanks for the awesome site!

Jason

I dont do all the WODS, guess i cherry pick the ones that fit into my regular programming. Love the WODS and definitely make me think and work harder. Thank you for sharing.

I’m in Buffalo, NY. I love this site, it’s some of my favorite programming, but me and my buddies are seriously lacking in equipment (we’re saving up, but it’s a long list: yoke, prowler, etc.) so a lot of the WODs are not possible, but I do what I can..

Joe, Buffalo, NY

Thank you for the informative and exceptionally fast reply. I’ll be honest, when I used the contact form on StrongmanWOD to ask about the stone molds, I didn’t expect that one of the individuals responsible for inspiring me to completely devote my training towards Crossfit, especially strongman and raw strength related lifting, would be the person emailing me back. I’m sure you get this kind of stuff regularly and I’ll try not to be too starstruck, but you’re one of the reasons my deadlift is now over 415 lbs (I’m 5’8, 165 soaking wet) when my previous max a couple months back was 335. My goal is to try and qualify for the North Central Regionals and you’re one of the individuals that keep me motivated to go out into my uninsulated (working on it!) and heater-less garage despite the winter months to keep chipping away in time for the Open. So seriously, thank you for all that you do for the community and for forging ahead no matter what. You’ve given me hope that 29 might not be too late of a start to make some noise and have some fun doing it. Oh, and thanks for the sweet molds, too!

Joey

  3. I took th strongman crossfit seminar this past wknd in sparta,nj. having never been in a crossfit gym or even spent time with any crossfit athletes i didnt know what to expect. as an am strongman trying to learn crossfit in a room full of crossfitters trying to learn strongman i wasnt sure how i would be treated.let me say i was treated GREAT by rob,his staff and everyone in attendance.they even tolerated my stupid ignorance re grace and burpee’s.the “how can we help u ” atmosphere was awesome.as far as crossfitters not being strong there were 180 pnd guys flipping 700 pnd tires and carrying 500 pnd yokes the first time they used these implements and the girls were even more impressive.these wod’ are great especially in their variety, squat and dl week in and week out gets boring after a while.thanks 4 everything rob.

    1. Bill-

You did a great job this past Saturday and although you didn’t need help learning how to lift stones or carry the yoke I’m sure the intensity of the workouts was eye-opening. I applaud your open mind.

      Be well, my friend.

  4. Rob,

Thank you so much for the work you put in to educating those of us who need it. I appreciate your site, and follow it religiously, I have grown in size and strength, ive put on 60lbs of muscle in about 6 months thank you.

Hey rob been doing sm sods since I took your sm cert in Nj a few months ago.I actually get excited and look forward to training days again.after one of your 50 Rep squat workouts I was able to hit a 51inch box jump,pr brother.switched from regular sm template so box jumps really new to me,thanks man.site is truly inspiring.almost forgot pr on yoke also.

  7. Threw myself outta the nest try and did my own workout 225 incline bench 5 reps, rope 100 taps for ten rounds, minimal rest.shoulda went heavier, think ill stick with hybrids workouts.afterwards as a finisher did empty log grace which is 90 pounds in 1:40. Any input would be great.

  8. Rob,

Recently I have noticed more and more nagging injuries and that its harder to recover as i’m sore everyday I wake up and it makes my training harder. The program I was following I enjoyed, this particular cycle was heavy oly and I Pr’d both lifts. However, the volume took its toll on my body. Im not old but im not young and I still have the athlete mentality to compete at any level. I love crossfit and all it has to offer but over the l;ast year it has beat me up and im debating on just going back to powerlifting normal gym routines. I know its not truly what I want but i want to be able to walk around like im not 60 already, but i also want to be as strong and fast as possible……can I have the best of both worlds? Can I still get strong, fast, and fit without feeling 60?

thanks for your time……look forward to hearing back

  9. Just wanna say Thank you……
